5 Android 15 Features I’m Most Excited About

Android 15 features

Android 15 is on the horizon, with a host of new features and enhancements. We are still months away from the official release. However, Google has already released multiple beta builds, giving us an early look at the new OS.

In this post, I’ve highlighted the 5 most exciting features of Android 15 that will make you eagerly wait for the official release.

1. Satellite Messaging

Android 15 is confirmed to support satellite messaging. However, it might not be available to all Android phones running the new OS, as this connectivity is going to be built into the hardware. Plus, this may involve a satellite network partner.

We’ll have to wait until the official release for more clarity. However, Google has confirmed that satellite connectivity supports SMS and MMS, as well as, preloaded RCS apps. This means, sending texts via satellite connectivity won’t be limited to emergency uses.

2. Private Space

Google is bringing Private Space to Android 15. As the name suggests, it’s a private space to keep your sensitive apps and files from prying eyes.

Private space uses a separate user profile. Apps you open don’t show up in the recent apps view. You can set up a different lock factor for additional protection. And the files you install in private space will be hidden to the normal space users.

The Private Space in Android 15 is similar to Secure Folder in Samsung phones. It’s a great way to protect files and apps under an additional security layer.

3. App Pairs

Android 15 also brings changes to big screen devices, such as tablets and foldables. One of the great additions to the new OS is App pairs. This lets you save your favorite split-screen app combination for quicker access.

It creates a shortcut on the home screen. You can pin it to the taskbar for easier access. Since I use my Android tablet in the split screen mode most  of the time, it saves me a lot of time and is more convenient.

4. Custom Vibrations

If you keep your Android device muted most of the time, Android 15 has a useful feature for you — Custom vibrations. It’s already available to app developers, now extending to users.

You’ll be able to set custom vibrations for specific notification channels, like having one buzz for WhatsApp messages and two buzzes for texts. So, you’ll know about the app without even looking at the screen.

5. App Archiving

I only got to know recently that Android phones already have an app archiving feature. It’s similar to offloading apps in iPhones that lets you remove the app while keeping the user data around to save storage. The next time you install the app, you can continue where you left off.

Existing Android phones already have app archiving support but restricted to apps installed from Play Store. Android 15 has this feature baked in. This means, you’ll be able to archive and unarchive apps, even those installed outside of the Play Store.
