Android 15 Release Timeline Is Officially Confirmed, and It’s a Bit Disappointing

After a long wait, we finally have an official confirmation on the Android 15 release timeline. It wasn’t a formal announcement from Google, but the information may have been accidentally revealed in the release notes for the Android Beta Exit update.

As spotted by Android Authority, the updated release notes for the Android Beta Exit update, which is pushed to the devices that opt out of the Android beta program, reads, “If you’re waiting for the Android 15 stable update, please ignore this OTA till Android 15 is available in October,”

Since this release note comes directly from Google, it essentially confirms that the stable Android 15 is coming in October. While it doesn’t reveal an exact release date, Android Authority says Google is eyeing a mid-month rollout due to a lack of stability. The publication further says independent Android publishers will only have to wait until next week for the Android 15 source code to roll out.

Last year, Google released Android 14 in the first week of October. The Android 15 was expected to be released at the Made by Google event held earlier this month, but to everyone’s surprise, the Pixel 9 series arrived with Android 14.

This is the first time Google has released the latest Pixels — the Pixel 9 — running an older version of Android OS. This is very disappointing, at least for the Pixel 9 buyers, as they don’t get the latest features out of the box. Secondly, the software update policy would probably be cut by a year. Nonetheless, the Pixel 9 models will be among the first devices to get Android 15.
