Android 15 made us wait longer. In fact, it was the longest Android release in recent years. But that won’t happen next year, as Google has already confirmed that Android 16 will come much sooner than this year’s Android 15.
In a blog post, Google announced that SDK releases would be more frequent going forward, with two planned in 2025. There will be a major release in Q2 (likely Android 16) and a minor release in Q4 that will include feature updates, optimizations, and bug fixing.

“We’re planning the major release for Q2 rather than Q3 to better align with the schedule of device launches across our ecosystem, so more devices can get the major release of Android sooner,” Google mentioned in the blog post. This also means the upcoming Pixel 10 series will likely boot Android 16 out of the box.
Android 16 release date leaked
According to an Android Headlines report, Google will push Android 16 to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 2. The OTA update will be rolled out to eligible Pixels on the same day.
This year, Android 15 was pushed to AOSP on September 4, but the OTA update began rolling out to Google Pixels on October 15. This long gap was enough for Vivo to become the first brand to release the Android 15 update. However, next year, Google Pixels will get the Android 16 update before other brands.
