Samsung One UI 8 leaks for the first time

One UI 7 is still under development. It will be released alongside the Galaxy S25 series later this month. However, that doesn’t mean Samsung isn’t preparing for future releases. The brand is indeed working on One UI 8.0, as per a fresh leak, which also suggests that there might not be One UI 7.1 in between.

Samsung has made major upgrades to almost all areas in the One UI 7.0, including the system apps. Digging deep into the internal codes of those system apps, Smartprix has found mentions of ‘One UI 8.0′. While it doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming changes, it suggests Samsung might be already working on it.

As per the leak, One UI 8.0 will add support for a decal shader to the One UI launcher. This should make the icons and animations look more beautiful. It could also be added to third-party apps as well.

Samsung might skip One UI 7.1 release

Decompilation of some apps shows multiple instances of One UI 8.0. It has been spotted alongside One UI 6.1, One UI 6.1.1, and One UI 7. There’s no mention of One UI 7.1, though. This is in line with previous rumors suggesting that the latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 series, will come with One UI 7.0 instead of One UI 7.1.

Android 16 is coming much sooner than last year, so it makes sense to skip One UI 7.1 and directly focus on pushing One UI 8.0 later this year without much delay.

Google released the first developer preview of Android 16 back in November, and the second preview build could come anytime soon. Then, we’ll have multiple beta versions before Android 16 reaches platform stability around March. If One UI history is anything to go by, we would have Android 16 public beta testing live for the Galaxy S25 series by March. The stable release is likely to follow in June.
