When will older Galaxy phones get the One UI 7 update?

2024 was a surprising (and majorly disappointing) year for Samsung regarding software rollout. The brand delayed the One UI 7 beta program, which was initially reported to begin in July. After a series of delays because of multiple reasons, Samsung finally released the One UI 7 beta in December.

Only the Galaxy S24 series has received One UI 7 beta so far, and it seems Samsung isn’t willing to expand the beta program to older models. This means the brand might directly push the stable update without any public beta. This is certainly disappointing for early testers, but for others, this might be a good thing if Samsung manages to push the stable release quicker than last year.

But the question is, when will older Galaxy phones start getting One UI 7 update?

While the One UI 7 is still baking in the oven, Samsung has confirmed that it will be released alongside the Galaxy S25 series on January 22. This means the upcoming Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra will run One UI 7.0 (based on Android 15) out of the box.

Samsung still hasn’t announced the One UI 7 rollout timeline for older phones. However, from a recent leak, we learned that the brand could start rolling it out to older phones from the first or second week of February 2025. So, we’re still a month to go.

As you may already know, recent flagships, such as the S24 and S23 series, Fold 6/Flip 6, and Fold 5/Flip 5, will be the first in line to get the One UI 7 treat. Then, it’ll eventually expand to mid-range and budget models.

Samsung is bringing significant upgrades to One UI 7, probably the biggest in recent years, and that makes sense as to why it’s still in the development phase. I’m excited and looking forward to great things. While we wait for the stable rollout, let’s quickly go through the One UI 7 changes and additions below.

What’s new in One UI 7?

One UI 7 introduces Now Bar, Samsung’s take on Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, but in a completely different manner. It highlights activities across various features such as Music, Recording, Stopwatch, Interpreter, and more without unlocking the device. The software revamps most of the native app icons that look more colorful.

Samsung has worked a lot on improving the smoothness, and that you watch yourself below:

Another big change to One UI 7 is the ability to split Notifications and the Quick Panel. So, you can now access notifications by swiping down from the left of the selfie camera and Quick Settings by swiping down from the right of the selfie camera. The notifications are now pill-shaped and bigger, too. There’s also a new volume control bar in the Quick Panel.

The latest One UI version also adds many widgets, with the ability to customize their appearance. Galaxy AI is now improved to make life easier for Galaxy users. The Writing Tools are upgraded to work anywhere whenever text is selected. They can also auto-format notes and summarize them.

Call Transcripts is another improved Galaxy AI feature that can automatically transcribe recorded calls in up to 20 different languages. One UI 7 also allows users to block USB connections when the phone’s screen is locked, though it won’t interfere with charging. This is a great security feature to ensure other people don’t get access to your device via USB connections.

There could be more to One UI 7.0, which Samsung might announce at the Galaxy Unpacked event later this month.
